27 / STAR STREET: Le Gran’Shlam

Le Grand’Shlam is a slam session, i.e. a mixture of open stage and guest performances. It is a space for expression and free speech in public. A slam is important in a democracy as a meeting place and as a place for free expression. It can help to foster a sense of community and cultivate freedom. As a form of social expression, a slam has a place in democracy. It might even be seen as a civic act!
27 / STAR STREET is a cultural exercise organised by the public reading network of Walloon Brabant. It is designed to help us live together better in Europe and to foster intercultural dialogue and rapprochement between the citizens of Europe.
Dozens of workshops and slam sessions will take place in the autumn of 2010 in several well-known libraries in Walloon Brabant: Braine-l’Alleud, Jodoigne, Lasne, Nivelles, Ottignies and Wavre.
Participants in these workshops are invited to produce their own piece at the Gran’Shlam in Louvain-la-Neuve at 18.00 on 1 December.
