“2010, Fantasy, Surrealist and Apocalyptic Europe”
The museum and its collection: the permanent collection displays items from different generations which all share common ground in the fantastic, the alien or the surreal. This completely atypical collection mixes all forms: plastic arts, painting, sculpture, etc. In a mansion located a stone’s throw from the Musée Horta, you can meet an Elephant Man who may disclose his life story to you, discover numerous surprising works such as The Killer Flies or The Mummy of Mato Grosso or observe a morpho-symbiosis between a woman and a spider close up! Like it or not, the collection is as unique as it is surprising. The museum is also endeavouring to constantly enrich its collection with new items.
The Musée d'Art Fantastique in Brussels is going to bring together about 50 artists from both the French Community and the European Community. These artists will present a fantasy, Surrealist or apocalyptic vision of a building, a site or a structure in their country or their region.
The works will be presented in large-scale format (800 x 1200 mm) and exhibited at the Musée d'Art Fantastique as part of its permanent collection. As this exhibition is to be easily accessible, it will permit European artists to feed into our Belgian culture, which is already so rich and diversified. It will also be interactive, as visitors will be asked to choose the best creation, which will receive the popular choice award. The exhibition could even become mobile until the end of December by travelling to other cultural locations.
From Thursday to Sunday, 2.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
