1st European Youth Work Convention
This Convention will focus on the role of youth work: to make the various advantages, needs, characteristics, strengths and contributions to society visible, and to provide a stimulus for a future agenda and action plan. The Convention intends to accomplish this together with the youth workers and youth organisations themselves, but also with governments and researchers from the 49 countries of the Council of Europe. This Pan-European approach to the convention aims to strengthen youth work across Europe by stimulating networking, mutual understanding, reflection and learning, and by issuing a declaration.
In the new framework for European cooperation in youth affairs (2010-2018), youth work is defined for the first time in an official EU document . In addition, a new role has been defined for youth work. Youth work plays an important part in Belgium's three communities and Belgium has always expressed views on this in the Council.
The Belgian EU Presidency therefore takes this opportunity to further elaborate on the role of youth work, to make the various advantages, needs, characteristics, strengths and contributions to society visible, and to provide a stimulus for a future agenda and action plan.
